Gran Canaria-Real Madrid: Whites hoping to secure place in league semifinals
Chus Mateo's troops will be looking for the second and decisive point of the series on their visit to the island (9pm CET).
This evening Real Madrid face the second match of the quarter-final playoff at the Gran Canaria Arena. After Sunday’s convincing victory at the WiZink Center to make it 1-0 in the series, the Whites have the chance to secure their place in the semi-finals against a side that will be fighting to force a third game.
Chus Mateo's men will not be complacent despite the recent 27-point victory 95-68 and their 11-game winning streak that began on April 30. The madridistas are in their best form and have regained their defensive prowess. They reduced Gran Canaria's scoring average by almost 20 points and in four of the last six games they have limit their opponents to less than 70 points. In the three head-to-head meetings with the Yellows, the numbers speak volumes: 98.3 points for and 73.3 against, winning by an average of 25 points 105-85, 67-95 and 95-68.

Gran Canaria are looking for their first win in the playoffs and will be competing in front of their home crowd. The Eurocup champions remain a very dangerous side, with a highly versatile inside game Inglis and Balcerowski were the standouts and a huge three-point threat, mainly in Benite, Shurna, Brussino and AJ Slaughter. Madrid will have to stand up to them as a unit, which is perhaps their greatest strength. The common denominator in all the victories has been the dominance of the rebounding and the accuracy in three-pointers, with an average of 13 made and a percentage of 45.6%. Musa 21 in PIR, Tavares and Llull 18 each, spearheaded the Whites in the first game. If they win, Madrid will face the winners of the Baskonia-Joventut clash in the next round.
