Bilbao Basket-Real Madrid: first test of the 2023/24 season
Chus Mateo's side will play three warm-up games before the Super Cup (7:45pm).
Real Madrid are gearing up for their first friendly of the 2023/24 season at the Navarra Arena against Surne Bilbao Basket. They will then play two more in the Costa del Sol tournament against Bayern Munich Saturday 9 and Unicaja Sunday 10. Chus Mateo's team will begin their preparations this afternoon ahead of the Endesa Super Cup Clásico, which takes place in two weeks' time.
Five days after starting the season with medical tests and just four training sessions, the team will be put through their paces against another ACB team with a view to getting into competition form. Chus Mateo, in what will be his second season in command of the Madrid bench, will not be able to count on the four World Cup players: Llull, Rudy, Tavares and Yabusele, but he does have the rest of the players available, including the major reinforcement for this season, Campazzo, and Deck, who has recovered from the knee injury he sustained in May.

Madrid will take on a revamped Bilbao Basket. To cover for the important departures of Hakanson, Withey, Alonso and Goudelock, among others, they have brought in players with experience in our league, such as point guard Renfroe and centre Hlinason, as well as former Madrid youth player Pantzar, who join Rabaseda, Andersson, Reyes, Smith and Tsalmpouris. In theory, a strong team in the paint and capable of scoring points on the outside.
