Bayern-Real Madrid: chasing a ninth away win in the Euroleague
The leaders head into the first game of this week's double-header ( 8pm CET).
Another Euroleague double-header for Real Madrid. The schedule doesn't stop. There are another three games this week, with the league game on Sunday against UCAM Murcia. First, today's away game against Bayern Munich. Our team, who lead the table with three more wins than the second-placed team, will be looking to boast their status as the best away team in the competition, as well as picking up their ninth win on the road against an opponent who is aiming for the playoff places.
Real Madrid want to continue their good run of form. They will have a demanding test today on the court of the team coached by former Real Madrid legend Pablo Laso. We come on the back of winning a historic game against Anadolu Efes in four overtimes and also winning in the league in Vitoria. A win would equal our second best away record in a regular season. The record is 10 from last season and 2020/21.
We're up against an opponent that is very strong at home, with six wins in eight games. One thing that will be key in this game is rebounding. The two best teams in this area are meeting. Ibaka, Booker and Bonga are their biggest threats on the inside. On the outside, Francisco, Edwards, Bolmaro and Lucic, among others, will stand out. Real Madrid also lead in scoring with almost 90 points per game and have innumerable offensive resources and in-form players such as Musa (who set a Madrid record by scoring 40 points against Efes), Hezonja, Campazzo and Yabusele, who was the standout performer in Vitoria.
Historical records
The last time the two teams met was on 14 December at the WiZink Center. On that day, Madrid were convincing 88-73 winners, with five players in double figures in scoring, led by Poirier (20 PIR). The two teams have met on 14 occasions overall, with 11 wins for Madrid, who have won on their last three visits to Bayern's court. Llull goes on adding to his legend: he could today become the player to have played the most games in our jersey, overtaking Reyes (1,046) and also the second most in the Euroleague.
