Bayern Munich-Real Madrid: all eyes on a fourth EuroLeague win
Scariolo's boys are set to play another three games in five days, as they look to take their first win on the road in the competition (8:00 pm CET).
Real Madrid head to Munich's SAP Garden this evening to kick off another week that sees three games inside five days (Fenerbahce on Thursday and Casademont Zaragoza on Sunday). Today, they take on Bayern looking to clinch a fourth EuroLeague win so far, and their first away from the Movistar Arena.
Scariolo's boys have been unplayable on home turf so far this season, with 3 EuroLeague wins, and another 3 in the Endesa League. Tonight marks their latest opportunity to pick up a point on the road, against a Bayern Munich outfit who have won two of their four games in their own back yard, and sit towards the bottom of the table. Madrid boast one of the EuroLeague's best defences (81.8 points conceded per game), while the Bavarians are the lowest scoring team (75.7). Our boys will have to make those stats count, especially with their wealth of offensive options.
Hezonja leads the way in that department (15.7), alongside Lyles (11.3), Maledon (11.3) and Okeke (10,2). Bruno Fernando's departure will undoubtedly allow Garuba and Almansa to get some more game time. The former was one of the standout performers in Sunday's win over Baxi Manresa (87-75).
Opponents
Bayern are a highly competitive unit on home ground. They're packed with former ACB players in their ranks, with Da Silva, Jovic, Baldwin and Rathan-Mayes, while Obst, Mike and Lucic are their greatest offensive threats, and Gabriel and McCormack bring physique in the paint. The head-to-head makes pleasant reading for Madrid, who have won 14 of the 18 clashes between the two so far. The most recent clash came in last season's play in, ending in a 93-71 win for our boys, while Madrid have come away from Munich victorious in four of their last five visits.
