It is 54 years since Real Madrid won their 15th La Liga title. On 14 May 1972, our team clinched the title after beating Sevilla 4–1 at the Santiago Bernabéu on the final day of the season. The Madrid side thrashed the Andalusian side with goals from Amancio and Santillana in the first half, and a brace from Pirri in the second.
That season, which featured 18 teams, saw Real Madrid finish top of the table with 47 points. They were followed by Valencia (45) and Barcelona (43). Pirri, with 11 goals, and Santillana, with 10, were the team’s top scorers. The Real Madrid squad was managed by Miguel Muñoz, who won his ninth and final La Liga title at the helm of the team.
