José Martínez Pirri was named as Honorary President of Real Madrid after a unanimous vote at the Extraordinary General Assembly, which was held both in person and online at the Real Madrid City basketball pavilion. The Madrid legend received a standing ovation from the Representative Members. Florentino Pérez paid tribute to Amancio and praised Pirri: "Amancio exemplified everything that Real Madrid is and what our crest represents for millions of people who respect our history. He will always be in the hearts of all of us, as will Alfredo Di Stéfano, our first honorary president of Real Madrid and his successor Paco Gento."

"And today, after bidding farewell to Amancio Amaro, and thanking him for everything he gave us, the Board of Directors of Real Madrid proposes to this Extraordinary Assembly the name of one of the greatest legends of our club to succeed him."
