Fifth anniversary of UEFA Super Cup triumph

NEWS STORY. 08/08/2022

Real Madrid overcame Manchester United in a 2-1 win, secured courtesy of strikes from Casemiro and Isco.

Today marks the fifth anniversary of Real Madrid's fourth UEFA Super Cup trophy triumph. On 8 August 2017, our team saw off Manchester United at the Nacional Filipo II Stadium in Skopje, Macedonia. After having captured the Duodécima (the club's 12th European Cup) several months earlier, Madrid claimed another piece of continental silverware courtesy of strikes from Casemiro and Isco, who landed the Man of the Match award.

Zinedine Zidane's men hit the front following a strike from the Brazilian midfielder, who connected with Dani Carvajal's cross and fired home a first-time left-footed finish. Just minutes after the restart, Isco doubled the madridistas' advantage after outfoxing David De Gea in a one-on-one. Romelu Lukaku then netted to reduce the arrears with what proved to be the final goal of the game. This win saw Real Madrid clinch the UEFA Super Cup for the second time in as many years.
