The International Olympic Committee has announced new dates for the sporting event in Tokyo.
There are now dates for the Tokyo Olympics, which were to be held this summer but were postponed for a year due to the global health crisis over the coronavirus disease. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that the Games will be held from 23 July to 8 August 2021.

Following a meeting between IOC President Thomas Bach, Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike and Games Minister Seiko Hashimoto, the IOC said in a statement that "these new dates give health authorities and all those involved in the organization of the Games maximum time to deal with the ever-changing landscape and the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, he stressed that "this decision is made based on three main considerations: protecting the health of the athletes and all those involved and supporting the containment of the COVID-19 virus; safeguarding the interests of the athletes; and the global international sporting calendar.
