Maledon scores Euroleague's millionth point
The Madrid point guard scored a three-pointer against Paris Basketball to reach this historic figure in the competition.
Maledon was the star of the game between Real Madrid and Paris Basketball in the 17th round of the Euroleague, which was played at the Movistar Arena. As well as being the best player in the victory madridista (21 points), the French point guard will go down in history for scoring the millionth point in the European competition, which is in its 25th season.
The play
With 43 seconds left in the first quarter and the score at 19-21 in favour of the Parisians, Maledon scored a three-pointer to put los blancos in the lead and achieve a historic milestone in the Euroleague. Twenty-five years earlier, on 16 October 2000, Dino Rađa had made the first basket of the tournament in the opening game between his team, Olympiacos and Real Madrid.
After the game, the French player evaluated the victory: "The last quarter was excellent. That's the Real Madrid we aim to be. We fought very hard, and that's what we have to do for the whole 40 minutes. I felt great. Obviously, playing against a French team brings back memories. It was good to play against a couple of friends and get the win for our fans."
