Scariolo: “I'm happy with the team's great mentality”
“The second half was extraordinary defensively,” explained the coach after the win against Unicaja.
Sergio Scariolo analysed Real Madrid's victory over Unicaja on matchday 12 of the league: "I'm very happy with this game, with the great mentality. We have to give a lot of credit to the victory. The players have shown that they are united, that they believe in the team, in themselves and in what we do. They have shown great cohesion and have not wanted to give up against a great team like Unicaja. Coming back from 14 points down, I repeat, is very commendable.”
“The second half was extraordinary defensively. The first half was very good in attack but not in defence, obviously. But it's complicated to play with so much energy, play and defend to the death for 40 minutes when you're playing less than 48 hours after the previous game. Thanks to the players' effort, we found it in the second half."
37 consecutive home wins
“The home or away issue has to be anecdotal. Today, the arena was full, the fans had fun, enjoyed themselves, supported the team and were really our sixth man, and that's how we want it to continue. It was a very important factor in this victory.”
Similarities with the Monaco game
“It was similar to the Monaco game, with a different setting, opponent and outcome, but with the same attitude, character and team spirit. We improved when we started to control the rebound and when we put more thought into our decisions. When you play every 48 hours, your energy is very limited and it's difficult to stay focused for 40 minutes. The players' attitude deserves praise.”
