Ancelotti: “We managed to turn it around thanks to the commitment, energy and desire from the team"

"We're capable of turning up with an intensity that our opponents find difficult to withstand for 90 minutes", said the coach.
Carlo Ancelotti spoke in the Santiago Bernabéu press room following Real Madrid's win over Real Sociedad in matchday five of LaLiga: "'We've conceded goals in three of the five games we've played, and gone behind in them. We have to prevent that from happening because it's hard to get back into the game and you have to make more of an effort, as we saw today. And today it was against a side who play very good football. We managed to do it thanks to the commitment, energy and desire from the team, which has been something that's been seen in all of these games. We're capable of turning up with an intensity that our opponents find difficult to withstand for 90 minutes".

"The first half wasn't bad. We looked to press high up the pitch, but the opposition played a very high defensive line and we had to attack more directly. It was a good game, although the goal we conceded happened in a move that we were expecting. Real Sociedad usually do this and it was discussed before the game. The opposition also have the quality to do this and surprise us. We've got a lot of options in terms of players who can score goals, but we can't concede and go behind in games".

The tactical position at 2-1
"We lowered the block because we were ahead and I set up a 4-4-2 with Bellingham on the left and then a 4-5-1. We needed to defend well and that's what we did. I'm not worried about playing a low block and playing on the counter. We'll do it when we need to. After 70 minutes we needed to defend and counter-attack".

Praise for Fran García
"Kubo played very well and was very dangerous. He was good in the first half and in the second he provided two fantastic assists that helped us win the game".
What does Joselu bring to the attack?
" He's a great asset in attack because he plays very well with his back to goal, with his head and he's very dangerous in the opposition's box. He's also a very good header of the ball and we know what he can contribute. We don't have any player with these characteristics up front and he's very important because he's ready for crosses and he plays very well in the opposition's box. It's not a coincidence that he's scored in both home games because we've had more chances. I would have changed him anyway if he hadn't scored because I wanted more control in midfield. I debated whether or not to take him off after he scored".

Bellingham
"He had a steady performance, working hard. He didn't get into the box much except for Brahim's late run. Real Sociedad have a very high line and it was more difficult for him".

The importance of Carvajal in the system
"We get width from the two full-backs and that's why he's further forward when we have the ball. As the forwards are more central we need the full-backs further forward".

Rodrygo
"I liked him because his positioning between the lines was very good. Like Valverde, he is one of the players most affected by this international break because he only arrived back on Thursday afternoon. It's not so easy to recover after arriving on Thursday. He didn't score, but that's fine".
