All square at the Bernabéu

Real Madrid were held to a draw at home against Real Sociedad, although they merited the three points based on chances and performance. Ancelotti's men gave their all, but failed to get past Remiro in a game played at a high intensity. The lion's share of the chances in the first half were created by our team. The first opportunity fell to Vini Jr. on 14 minutes. The Brazilian picked up the ball on the edge of the area and rounded Zubeldia, but his shot fizzed inches wide of the target. The visitors' response came three minutes later as Illarra's left-footed shot from inside the area grazed the post.

Ancelotti's men had the better of the play from then until half-time with Kroos trying his luck in the 32nd minute with an effort from the edge of the area, forcing Remiro to make a great save. Shortly after, it was Benzema who came close after a lovely link-up between Vini Jr. and Rodrygo. The Frenchman's left-footed strike was turned away by the visitors' keeper.

Real Madrid’s fluid attack carved out two further opportunities right on the stroke of half-time. The first was Ceballos’ lovely curling effort from the edge of the box which whistled just wide of the target, while the second was far more clear-cut as Vini Jr. raced through one-on-one but Remiro came out on top. The goalkeeper was in the thick of the action once again as the team emerged from the dressing rooms for the second half. Slick link-up between Benzema and Vini Jr. saw the Brazilian get a decent left-footed shot off with 49 on the clock but the Real Sociedad goalie did well to stick out a leg and deny him.

Real Madrid deserved a goal, but it was Real Sociedad who came close to springing a surprise on 60’ but Kubo’s effort was superbly kept out by Courtois. Eleven minutes later, our team had another fine chance. Vini Jr. was up against the goalkeeper once more, but as he looked for the subtle dink, Remiro reacted brilliantly to foil him. The shot-stopper was undoubtedly Real’s top performer, ultimately clinching a point for his team despite Ancelotti’s side’s efforts until the end of a game from which they deserved far more.
