Real Madrid played out a draw against Cádiz at the Santiago Bernabéu and Thibaut Courtois had the following to say after the game: “It’s a point that leaves us with the feeling that we could have got more. The game turned out in a similar way as the matches against Villarreal and Osasuna. They’re teams that are strong defensively and don't afford you any spaces. Perhaps we needed to play the ball around faster in the first half. We upped the pace of things in the second half, with some low and high crosses into the box, balls in behind and shots from distance… We didn't manage to get the win unfortunately, but we’ve been on a good winning run. We've got to go and get the win on Wednesday at what's a tough place to go. We mustn't let our heads drop after a point and have to keep on going”.
“We’ve played a game more than Sevilla, Atleti and Barça, but continue to play at a good tempo. The important thing is that we continue to keep the pressure up and win our games and that's why it's important that we win on Wednesday in Bilbao and sign off for the year on a high. We’ve got to keep winning games in the new year too. We've done very well in our first 18 games, although we've dropped a few points at home and that's a shame. Teams come here to defend because we’re very quick on the counter-attack. It hasn't been an easy week, but we're going to keep going”.
Virus outbreak
“It didn't affect things, it just changed the order of the training sessions on two or three days. We trained well and everything was normal. The number of cases has risen a bit at the moment because the virus is a little bit more contagious, but I think that everything is in order. Everyone’s fine and that’s the most important thing”.
Lucas Vázquez: "We dominated from start to finish"
“We dominated from start to finish. We perhaps lacked a bit of fluidity in the final third, where we weren't at our best and we had a few clear-cut chances. In football you get days where the ball goes in and other times it just doesn't want to… tonight was one of those where it just didn't want to go in”.
"We were aware of how the game was going to be and how they were going to set up here at the Bernabéu. If we'd have put some of the chances away, it'd have been a different game. We need to learn from it and keep up our momentum up, we're still at the top. We're in good shape and we're going to keep moving forward".
Second-half change
"We had more time ahead of us in the first half. As the game went on we wanted to get the goals. We're going all out up front and taking risks of being hit on the counter-attack, but we had to do that. It's a shame we didn't get the win".
Time added on
"We're seeing different situations in matches in the competition, in one game we're given eight minutes, in another two... I think that sometimes time-wasting is being rewarded too much. It's not an excuse at all, but it must be taken into account".
Difference in the league table
"We're not looking at that, we're focused on ourselves. We want to carry on in this way. The team is having a very good first half of the season. We're going to continue working hard to keep this going until the end and reward our fans with titles, something we all like to do".
