Emilio Butragueño and Kike Figaredo attended the signing.
Kike Figaredo, Apostolic Prefect of Battambang, Cambodia, remotely attended the signing of the Real Madrid Foundation with the NGO, SAUCE. The event took place in the auditorium at Real Madrid City and it was presided over by Enrique Sánchez, executive vice-president of the Foundation. Javier Álvarez Cienfuegos, president of SAUCE (Solidarity, Help and Union Create Hope), commissioned the signing of the agreement in the presence of Real Madrid's Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueño.
The agreement allows the socio-sports schools that have been running since 2015 in the apostolic prefecture of Battambang to continue. The aim is to assist a particularly vulnerable group such as minors affected by polio or victims of landmine accidents, which are very common in this province. SAUCE works to provide access to primary education for all children and young people who are of school age, to support people with varying physical abilities, to promote the farmers' work and to provide accessible health services.
Access to education
Through their involvement in the Real Madrid Foundation's school, around 100 children, including pupils with functional diversity, now have access to quality education and participation in a wide range of activities to facilitate their inclusion. The Foundation's socio-sports schools in Battambang are partnered with the Real Madrid Foundation's football schools in Japan, with the support of Kohei Masuda.
The mission in Battambang
Butragueño underlined the special connection with this project and its beneficiaries, some of whom visited Madrid to be clinically treated for their conditions, coinciding with the premiere of the documentary 'Mission in Battambang', following in the footsteps of Kike Figaredo, which can now be seen on Amazon Prime Video.
