Courtois: “We were superior in the second half”

"It was a really demanding game and we were up against a team that are well equipped at the back", stated Carvajal.

Courtois and Carvajal were two of the stars of the derby and they spoke to the media after the game. The goalkeeper said: "We competed this week against two teams that were not easy, today we played well, better in the second half, we had chances but we couldn’t finish, I think the draw is fair but it doesn’t matter because in the second half we were superior".

"In the first one-on-one with Griezmann I had to wait, stand up and anticipate, in the second, with Diego Costa, I waited with an open hand to stop it. It’s been four years since I left Atlético for Chelsea, today was a derby, which is a great match, but it's an important match like any other for me".

"I do not know if Gareth is injured, I hope it's nothing. Vinicius Jr. has come from Brazil, he has to get used to Spanish football and little by little he’ll adapt and get in to the team".

"We did enough in the second half to have won and it's disappointing that we didn't get the three points. We've now got an important game in Moscow, we face a long journey and we've got to rest up and make sure we're ready".

We stepped things up after the break and could have taken all three points. We go away with our heads held high, after having given every last ounce out there".
