Schalke 04 - Real Madrid

The side to have scored the most goals away from home in the Champions Leage

NEWS | 29/04/2014 | diego jabalquinto

Real Madrid have beaten their record of goals scored away from home in the European Cup.
Of the 32 teams who started the Champions League, there are only four remaining who have a chance of lifting the trophy. Real Madrid are one of them, and they go into their semi-final second leg in Munich as the side that has scored the most goals away from home in the tournament. Thanks to the 16 they have in their six games thus far, they have broken their record of goals scored outside of the Spanish capital. Ancelotti's men made their debuts in the tournament in style, downing Galatasaray 1-6 at the Ali Sami Yen. In the Juventus Stadium they took a valuable draw (2-2), whilst they closed off the Group Phase with a 0-2 win in Copenhagen. In the first leg of the quarterfinals they showed off their attacking capabilities once again, downing Schalke 1-6, and have only been unable to find the net on their travels in the second leg against Dortmund.

The best ever
Of the 44 editions that Real Madrid have played in the continent's premier competition, this is the one in which they've scored the most goals as the away side. The second best was in the 2001/02 campaign when they won the ninth European Cup. Then the side has got to 14, without including the two from the final in Glasgow, which they played as the home side.
