Scorer against Partizan in the first European Cup
At the age of 22, Heliodoro Castaño joined Real Madrid and was a key player in the match against Partizan in the first European Cup. The forward bagged a brace in the quarter-final first leg against the Serbian team, which ended 4-0 in to our team. This lead helped the team overcome the tie despite losing in Belgrade in an epic match in the snow. Real Madrid ended up winning that season and were crowned the first European champions in history.
Castaño shared a dressing room with the winning squads of the second and third European Cups. Following his spell t Real Madrid, he joined Real Betis. He passed away on 25 September 2019, at the age of 86.
