From 2010 to 2013, Madrid fans were treated to the magic of one of the best midfielders in the world. A gifted player with an amazing ability to pick out his teammates, Özil played a key role in bringing home three trophies for Real Madrid: 1 league title, 1 Copa del Rey and 1 Spanish Super Cup.

Özil joined our club in the summer of 2010 from Werder Bremen and after shining at the World Cup in South Africa with Germany. He had previously made his mark on the Bundesliga at a very young age, debuting at the age of 17 with Schalke 04. At Real Madrid he played a pivotal role from the start in Mourinho's side and in his first season he started the 2011 Copa del Rey final win over Barcelona at Mestalla.

The following season would deliver the league title, with Özil showcasing his talent in a side that racked up 100 points and 121 goals. Many of these goals were assisted by the German, who linked up with a formidable front line of Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuain. At the start of the 2012/13 season he collected his last trophy with Real Madrid, the Spanish Super Cup after beating Barcelona, when he started both games and provided an assist for Cristiano in the first leg. After his spell at Real Madrid, Özil moved to Arsenal and then played in the Turkish league and continued his career with the German national team (92 appearances and 23 goals), where he was a World Cup winner in 2014.
