30 years without Luis de Carlos
On 27 1994, the man who was Real Madrid president for seven years, winning 15 trophies across football and basketball, passed away.
Today marks 30 years since the passing of Luis de Carlos. On 27 May 1994, Real Madrid said goodbye to the man who was the club's president from 1978 until 1985. He succeeded Santiago Bernabéu in the role and under his stewardship, Real Madrid won 15 titles across football (2 LaLigas, 2 Copas de España and 1 UEFA Cup) and basketball (1 European Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 1 FIBA Saporta Cup, 5 Leagues, 1 Copa de España and 1 Spanish Super Cup).
Luis de Carlos was born in Madrid on 16 Match 1907 and it was under his presidency that the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium underwent a significant remodel ahead of the World Cup held in Spain in 1982. He was also a member of our club since 1942 and held an executive role from 1957. In his honour, during Florentino Pérez's first spell as Real Madrid president, he set up the Luis de Carlos Forum, hosted by the Foundation.
