The club celebrates 104 years since it was granted the title Real
King Alfonso XIII granted Madrid the right to use this name on 29 June 1920.
On 29 June 1920, King Alfonso XIII bestowed upon Madrid the title of Real. A letter was sent to the club's president, Pedro Parages, by the MayordomÃa Mayor of the monarch, bestowing the club the right to use that name, stating: "His Majesty the King q.D.g., is pleased to grant the title of Real (Royal), to the Football Club of which you are the worthy President, henceforth, this title may be placed before the club's name. I hereby inform you of this by Royal order for your knowledge and consequent effects".
This concession allowed the club to display the royal crown on its coat of arms and, from that year onwards, the Madrid Football Club was renamed Real Madrid Football Club.
