Sergio Scariolo, awarded the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit

Sergio Scariolo has been awarded the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit for his spectacular career at the helm of the Spanish national team. The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, Pilar Alegría, has approved awarding the Real Madrid coach the highest distinction granted by the Spanish Government in the field of sport in recognition of his work over fifteen years at the helm of the national team.
Scariolo is the most successful coach in the history of the Spanish national team, with eight medals: five gold (World Cup 2019, Eurobasket 2009, Eurobasket 2011, Eurobasket 2015 and Eurobasket 2022), one silver (London 2012 Olympic Games) and two bronze (Rio 2016 Olympic Games and Eurobasket 2017).
