Programa centros penitenciarios

Prison sport represents a beneficial activity within the re-education of inmates and seeks to contribute to their future reintegration into society. The participants are selected by the sports coordinators at each prison from amongst those who express an interest in the programme and are nearing the end of their sentence.

The weekly sports activities run amongst the prison population represent a particularly significant part of the Real Madrid Foundation’s work. The majority of inmates are aged under 30 and are foreign nationals and educational sport represents an intervention tool that impacts on the inmates’ behaviour, the relationship amongst themselves and their relationship with the staff, with the football matches acting as bridges for future reintegration by helping to alter behaviour and promoting the assimilation of the positive and universal values offered by team sport in terms of both personal and social values.
