Reguilón makes first-team bow

NEWS | 02/10/2018

"We hit the woodwork three times and created chances but the ball just didn't want to go in", declared the youth-team graduate.
Sergio Reguilón experienced a special night at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium as the wing-back, who had previously featured for the first team during pre-season, took his place in the starting line-up against CSKA.  His first taste of competitive first-team action saw Reguilón fulfil the dream held by every Real Madrid academy player: to make their first-team debut.

After completing the 90 minutes, he reflected on the game in the following terms: "It was debut that leaves a bitter taste because we didn't manage to win the game. We hit the woodwork three times and created chances but the ball just didn't want to go in. The important thing is that we keep coming up with these chances for ourselves, and eventually the goals will come.

“We need to keep our heads and stay calm because we’re only in October and we know the season is a long one. We know the potential that we have, we are Real Madrid and we know that this is not a good starting point, let alone a good way to end things. The result did not go our way but there were positives: we played some beautiful football, making some great chances, and we need to keep plugging away. That is how the game goes, we have to learn something from our mistakes because football is built around that: if you don’t score, your opponents will punish you”.
