NEWS | 13/08/2017 | Alberto NavarroThe LaLiga champions look to draw first blood in el Clásico (10:00pm CEST).
The season has just started, but the work is non-stop at Real Madrid. The Champion's League title holders won the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday, now they turn their attentions to the Spanish Super Cup. The Camp Nou hosts the first Clásico of the season.
The Whites will look to claim their second title of the season on Wednesday night. Scoring goals in the Camp Nou will be key in order to lift the trophy. The LaLiga champions go into the clash in good shape as they have the best record of scoring in consecutive official games scoring: They have gone 66 (the last 5 games of the 15/16 season, the 60 games last season and the UEFA Super Cup (against Manchester United).
Cristiano Ronaldo, top madridista goal scorer in the Camp Nou
“The Spanish Super Cup is extra special”, stated Zinedine Zidane in the pre-match press conference. The French coach, who has won all of his five finals as madridista coach (la Undécima, la Duodécima, the Club World Cup and the last two UEFA Super Cups), is going into his first two-legged final. In the press conference, he claimed he is "ready" Cristiano Ronaldo, the club's top goal scorer in the Camp Nou (10). Modric is banned, and will not feature.
This will be the fifth time that Real Madrid face Barcelona as LaLiga champions in the Spanish Super Cup and the seventh time they face each other overall. The balance couldn’t be more positive for the Whites: They have won all clashes as reigning league champions (1988, 1990, 1997 and 2012) and only fell short in 2011, when they were defeated after a season which saw the Whites lift the Copa del Rey.
Unbeaten in preseason
It will be the second time in less than a month that Real Madrid and Barcelona go head-to-head after their match in Miami. Barcelona are unbeaten, and following the sale of Neymar to PSG, Valverde's side come into this tie having drawn once and won four times. Juventus, Manchester United and Chapecoense have all fallen short against the azulgrana.
