En route to the final, Real Madrid finished top of a group featuring Rosenborg, Olympiacos and Porto. In the following rounds, the Whites saw off two German opponents in the shape of Bayer Leverkusen and holders Borussia Dortmund. The Whites' achievement in Amsterdam was made all the greater by the fact that Madrid prevailed over a Juventus side gracing the final for a third straight year. Nineteen years on from their last meeting in the European showpiece, the two teams will once again do battle for the continental crown on 3 June.
