An important goalkeeper who stands out thanks to his dominance in the air as well as his sharp reflexes, which have allowed him to make some spectacular stops. In fact, he made the highest number of saves of any La Liga goalkeeper during the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons.
Casilla knows Real Madrid perfectly well, given that he already played in the club's youth academy. In the summer of 2000 he joined the club's Under-15 side and formed a part of the Castilla team that played in the Second Division during the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons. In the latter of those seasons, he broke into the first team squad, and was called up on several occasions as the third choice keeper.
In 2007 he moved to Espanyol, where he remained after two loan spells with Cádiz and Cartagena. After a number of call-ups he finally made his debut with the Spanish national team in November 2014 during a friendly against Germany.
