On 16 April 1978, Real Madrid added another title to their honours list with a win over Cádiz (2-0).
On this day 46 years ago, Real Madrid celebrated their eighteenth league title win. On 16 April 1978, Luis Molowny, who had only taken over as coach on matchday 2 of that season, saw his team lift the trophy. Our team were mathematically crowned champions with three games to go when they beat Cádiz (2-0) at the Santiago Bernabéu. Goals by Wolff and Santillana ensured the title celebrations could begin.
That team, made up of legends including Pirri, Juanito, Stielike, Benito and Del Bosque, were LaLiga's top scorers, with 77 goals, 24 of which were scored by Santillana.
