30 years without Petrovic

The Croatian legend, who won a European Cup Winners' Cup and a Copa del Rey with Real Madrid, died in a car accident on 7 June 1993.
 

Drazen  Petrovic died in a traffic accident in Germany on 7 June 1993. During the 1988/89 season, Madrid fans were able to enjoy his performances in white and he put on displays that earned him a place in Real Madrid's history. One of the highlights was the European Cup Winners' Cup final, in which he scored 62 points to beat Snaidero Caserta. That season also saw him win the Copa del Rey.

Born in Sibenik (Croatia) on 22 October 1964, Petrovic was 28 years old at the time of the tragic accident, but he was already a European basketball legend. He first came to prominence with KK Sibenka and Cibona Zagreb before joining Real Madrid. After shining in our club, he began his NBA career, where he played for the Portland Trail Blazers and New Jersey Nets. In the latter franchise, his jersey with the number 3 was retired after his death.
