Real Madrid came past Athletic Club thanks to goals by Weir (2), Toletti and Athenea and will play for their first title against Atlético (Saturday, 10:00pm CEST).
Real Madrid thrashed Athletic Club at the Municipal Butarque to book their place in the Copa de la Reina final, where they will face Atlético de Madrid on Saturday (10:00pm CEST). It was a superb display by Toril's team, who quickly set themselves up in the clash as Weir, Toletti and Athenea all got on the scoresheet in the first half, before the Scot was at the double after the break. The madridistas are now just one game away from lifting their inaugural trophy.
Our team came out highly focused and the opening goal took no time at all. With just 7 minutes gone, the madridistas were ahead on the scoreboard following a sublime piece of play by Weir. Zornoza sent a long ball over the top, which the Scottish midfielder brought down beautifully before beating Quiñones with a delicate chip. A minute later, Linda C. came close to doubling the lead but her shot cannoned back off the upright.
With 27 minutes gone, Weir was at the heart of the action once more, setting up Toletti to place the game firmly in the madridistas' favour, her volley hitting an opposition defender before finding its way into the net. The Scot could have made it three when she raced through one-on-one, but her shot failed to find the target. On 40’, Athenea did extend the advantage, turning home Feller's lovely cross at the front post to make it 0-3 and put our team with one foot in the final.

With the second half barely underway, Weir completed her brace when she smashed home a loose ball from inside the box (46’). Our team were 0-4 up now, but far from settling for the result, Madrid continued to push forward. With 54 on the clock, Ivana headed wide from a corner, before Kenti was again denied by the post in the 88th minute. Real Madrid will play in their first ever Copa de la Reina final.
