Madrid emerge victorious from Tenerife to continue their winning run

MATCH REPORT. 08/02/2023. Eduardo Olivera

Weir, Olga and Toletti were on target to help the team earn an 11th successive league win.

Real Madrid earned a hard-fought victory to pick up another valuable three points away at UDG Tenerife in the rearranged game from matchday three of the Liga F.  Toril‘s side opened the scoring through Weir, but the Whites’ lead was cancelled out with a Rocío own goal on the stroke of halftime. In the second half, Olga restored Madrid’s lead from the penalty spot. The hosts once again pulled level, but Toletti headed in an 86th-minute winner (2-3). The madridistas remain unbeaten on the road and have now recorded 11 wins on the bounce in the competition.

After a few early chances for Tenerife, Madrid responded by breaking the deadlock with just five minutes on the clock. Esther swung in a cross and, after the opposition goalkeeper blocked Feller, Weir pounced to turn in the rebound and put the Whites ahead (0-1). However, eight minutes later the hosts levelled again after Rocío put the ball into her own net following an attempted clearance. Weir almost grabbed her second in the 43rd minute, but her shot went narrowly wide of the post. Despite chances for both sides, the clash went into the break with the score at 1-1.

Until the very end
In the second half, UDG Tenerife came out in search of a goal, but Weir gave the home side a chance that Estella managed to save on the goal line. In the 73rd minute, Olga converted a penalty awarded for a foul on Athenea to make it 1-2. But the home side reacted instantly and five minutes later Koko put the scores level again. However, the madridistas, who never give up, put the game to bed thanks to a magnificent header from Toletti.
