The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, and the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, have signed a collaboration agreement between the Fundación Estatal Salud, Infancia y Bienestar Social (CSAI) and the Real Madrid Foundation to fight against childhood obesity. Thanks to this agreement, both foundations will launch an education campaign to fight against childhood obesity that will include both training sessions, through the OTT Sports Values Academy TV platform of the Real Madrid Foundation, and practical activations in schools and socio-sports projects developed by our Foundation to serve more than 8,000 children every week in different lines of activity in Spain (soccer and basketball socio-sports schools, adapted and inclusive schools, programs in shelters and internment centers for minors and children's basketball program in hospitals).
According to the WHO European Agency's Aladdin study, 23.3% of Spanish schoolchildren are overweight and 17.3% are obese. This means that 40.6 % of the child population is overweight. Spain is the country with the second highest prevalence of overweight and the sixth highest prevalence of obesity. The weekly practice of sports and an adequate diet are the main tools to fight against this reality.
The event, which took place at Real Madrid Sport City, was also attended by the general director of the Real Madrid Foundation, Manuel Redondo; the director of the CSAI Foundation, Óscar Díaz; and the managing director of the Real Madrid Foundation, Julio González Ronco.
