On 22 August 2001, Real Madrid beat Zaragoza at the Santiago Bernabéu (3-0).

On 22 August 2001, Real Madrid lifted their sixth Spanish Super Cup. The Whites went head to head with Zaragoza and drew the first leg 1-1 at La Romareda thanks to a goal by Flavio Conceição. That game marked Zinedine Zidane's competitive debut for the club.
 
The return leg in front of the home crowd at the Santiago Bernabéu three days later saw Madrid cruise to a 3-0 win. Raúl inspired the side to victory with a hat-trick in the closing stages of the clash.
