On 22 June 2003, Real Madrid celebrated the club's 29th LaLiga title. The team clinched glory on the final matchday after a 3-1 win over Athletic at the Santiago Bernabéu, where a Ronaldo double and a Roberto Carlos handed the Whites the league honours. The 2002/03 title race proved to be a tight affair as Real Madrid (78 points) ultimately pipped Real Sociedad (76 points) to the post.

Vicente del Bosque's troops finished the season as the division's highest scorers (86). In the individual stakes, Ronaldo's 23-goal haul saw him top the team's goal charts.
