48th anniversary of the basketball team's 16th cup

Today marks 47 years since Real Madrid's basketball team got their hands on a 16th Copa de España. On 25 May 1974, our team came out on top over Joventut in an incredibly tight final in Alicante. The Catalan team took the first half, heading into the break with a 2-point lead (48-50). However, Pedro Ferrándiz's boys came out and turned it around in the second half, completing the comeback to win 87-85.

Brabender, with 20 points, Cristobal and Rullán, both with 12, were the standout madridista performers. The trophy would be our team's fifth consecutive Copa, rounding off a perfect campaign which also saw them win the European Cup and the League title. Real Madrid currently sit top of the all-time list, having clinched 28 cups in their history.
