The Madrid City Council presented Felipe Reyes with the Medal of Honour in recognition of his sporting career in a ceremony that took place at the palacio de Cibeles. The Real Madrid basketball legend was presented with the award by the deputy mayor, Begoña Villacís. The Madrid City Council Governing Board praised "the center's sporting career as a player involved with the two most outstanding basketball teams in Madrid: Real Madrid and Estudiantes".
Felipe Reyes is a Real Madrid and Spanish basketball legend. For the Whites he lifted 23 trophies (2 European Cups, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 7 ACB League titles, 6 Copa del Rey trophies, 6 Spanish Super Cups and 1 ULEB Cup), in addition to the 13 trophies he clinched with Spain (1 gold medal at the Basketball World Cup (2006), 3 gold medals at Eurobasket (2009, 2011 and 2015), 2 silver medals at Eurobasket (2003 and 2007), 1 bronze medal at Eurobasket (2001), 1 silver medal at the Beijing Olympics (2008), 1 silver medal at the London Olympics (2012), 1 bronze medal at the Rio Olympics (2016), 1 gold medal at the World Junior Championship (1999), 1 gold medal at the European Junior Championship (1998) and 1 bronze medal at the Under-20s Eurobasket (2000) along with 1 Copa del Rey with Estudiantes.
