On 20 April 1968, Real Madrid captured the club's 13th LaLiga title. Miguel Muñoz's troops clinched the crown in front of the madridista faithful on the penultimate matchday with a 2-1 win over UD Las Palmas, secured courtesy of strikes from Velázquez and Pirri.
That result put paid to the second-placed islanders' title challenge. The visitors ultimately finished third, whilst Barcelona ended the campaign as runners-up. The madridistas' leading goalscorers in that league season were Amancio, Velázquez and Pirri, with 10 goals apiece. Real Madrid ended the season with the meanest defence after being breached 26 times, whilst Junquera landed the Zamora Trophy.
