Real Madrid knocked out of Women´s Champions League

MATCH REPORT. 30/03/2022. Eduardo Olivera

Toril's team did their best at the Camp Nou but couldn't complete a comeback against Barcelona.

Real Madrid's first ever Women’s Champions League campaign has come to an end. Goals for Olga and Zornoza at the Camp Nou weren't enough to beat Barcelona, who came from 1-2 down in the second half. It was an uphill battle for Toril's girls from early on in the game after they conceded the opening goal when Misa was unable to keep out a Mapi León cross-shot on eight minutes. With a quarter of an hour gone, though, our team found a leveller after Paredes gave away a penalty when she blocked Olga's shot with her hand, and the madridista ace stepped up to convert from the spot to make it 1-1.
The hosts then had two good chances to go ahead before the break but Misa and her defence were in fine fettle and managed to keep them out. On their return from the dressing rooms, Real Madrid looked to turn the tie around and just three minutes into the second half, Zornoza put our team back in front with a spectacular goal from near the halfway line. It wasn't to be though, as Barcelona struck back immediately through Aitana and Pina in quick succession to make the score 3-2. With over an hour gone, Alexia and Graham also found the back of the net to extend Barcelona's lead. Alberto Toril's girls now switch their attention to their next LaLiga fixture, which sees them take on Sporting de Huelva on the road (Sunday, 12:00pm CET).
