Athletic-Real Madrid: a place in the Copa semi-finals up for grabs

PREVIEW. 03/02/2022

Ancelotti's men head to San Mamés for the fourth meeting between the two sides this season (9:30pm CET).

Following a 10-break break, our team returns to action tonight to kick off February with a mouth-watering tie: Athletic-Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals (9:30pm CET). It's the last single-game knockout round in this year's tournament, the winning clinching their place in the semi-finals.

Carlo Ancelotti's team's last two games both came against Elche, in LaLiga and in the Copa, the latter ending with a memorable ten-man comeback in extra-time. Prior to that, was the Spanish Super Cup clash against none other than Athletic, and our team ran out winners to lift their first trophy of the season.

“It's a very important game in a competition we're really excited about”, stated Ancelotti in the pre-match press conference. The squad set to travel to Bilbao includes Militão, Casemiro, Vini Jr., Rodrygo and Valverde, all of whom have been away on international duty this week with Brazil and Uruguay.

Fourth clash of the campaign
The match-up between Real Madrid and Athletic is the most common game this season so far. Our team will lock horns with the Basques for the fourth time in just over two months, following the LaLiga double-header and the Super Cup final.
