Pablo Laso gave his thought on Real Madrid game this Thursday against Bitci Baskonia at the Buesa Arena, in round 12 of the Euroleague (8:30pm CET): "We've had three good days training, we needed it to get people back in. Taylor has trained a bit, Thompkins is better and Randolph is back training with the team. Williams-Goss was back playing the other Sunday too. I'm trying to be optimistic and probably everyone will be able to train on Monday if there aren't any setbacks. We have a very difficult game against a top team. We know that we're going to have to do a lot of things right to win as is always the case in a Euroleague game".
"The Euroleague is really competitive and you're always competing with the best teams around. Our four wins on the bounce mean that we're working well. We haven't lost at home and we're looking good at the WiZink Center and proving to be very competitive. That's all there is to it. We're up against a different team tomorrow, who have changed their coach, who have different defensive and offensive options, and we will have to adapt. We must keep up our competitive spirit, our energy in the game and dominate aspects that are important to us".
"Since the arrival of Tavares, we've turned our defensive system around. Players have come and gone but I don't think it's only a matter of this season. It's a process to adapt to the characteristics of different players. It's true that it's looking better this year as we've limited our opponents in a lot of games and that's surprising. I'm don't believe that by not conceding a lot of points, you're defending well, but defensively the team is performing at a better level".
First two and a half months of competition
"If you'd have told me at the end of August that we'd be in this position at the end of the November national team break: Supercup champions, league leaders and co-leaders of the Euroleague, I would have taken it. This says a lot about how the team is working and I'm very happy. I also expect to do better to be at this level".
"The fact that Madrid and Barça are at the top says a lot about the two teams and the competitiveness of Spanish basketball. We both have to deal with a very competitive Endesa League. When we have one or two midweek Euroleague games we're always looking ahead to the weekend's league game because we know it's going to be difficult. There's a group of teams that's going to go from strength to strength during the competition like CSKA, Efes, Fenerbahçe and Milan. Teams like Zenit and Bayern are not as much of a surprise anymore, as they've already played in the playoffs. The Euroleague is so demanding and we're in the first third of the competition and there's still a lot of room for improvement for everyone".
