The League leaders deliver their best defensive performance of the season to clinch a seventh victory this month against Coosur Betis. Williams-Goss returned.

Real Madrid keep up their impressive pace in November, extending their 100% record so far this month (only a Euroleague clash with Baskonia left). It's seven from seven following today's win over Coosur Betis at the WiZink Center, to close out a tough week which also included victories over Asvel and KK Crvena Zvezda. The game marked a return for Williams-Goss and our team displayed a superb level in defense, restricting their rivals to just 48 points, a season record. Tavares (PIR of 18) moved level with Hervelle into fifth on the all-time foreign appearance-maker list for Madrid. Laso's men remain right at the top of the table with 10 wins from 11.

Our boys celebrated Williams-Goss's return, precisely one month after his finger injury against Fenerbahçe, and he was making the difference from the start. Solid at the back as ever, Betis could not break through the wall that was Tavares. Madrid began to find their groove in offense and with 5 minutes gone the scoreboard read 10-0. An advantage which grew to 12 in a superb first quarter from a defensive perspective (18-6). Abalde and Tavares, each with 6 points, were the strongest performers in the opening spell, while Laso had already used 9 players, including the American point guard.

Solid at the back
Madrid were controlling the game and giving a fantastic account of themselves in defense. Their total dominance of the rebound, now with Poirier, and Laso's rotations to maintain the intensity (with Núñez, Llull and Vukčević, everyone had now some had minutes), meant the visitors could not find the basket. Five points from the captain gave Madrid their highest lead at 32-14 with 18 on the clock, and it could have been greater still if the team had found their range from the three-point line. Someone whose wrist did warm up was the opposition point guard, Evans, who led a 7-0 run for Coosur Betis (32-31).

The visitors were keen to get back into the game and Evans again pulled his team onto his back and cut the deficit to below 10 points (37-29, min. 24). Madrid were lacking freshness in offense now and the game was at a key moment. The team felt it and stepped up, picking up the energy and delivering a decisive blow. Tavares was everywhere, posting blocks and baskets with ease; Heurtel took control and began finding the basket too, alongside Abalde, while Yabusele was at his destructive best. A 20-4 run completely killed any Coosur Betis hopes, and they had no response to the madridista onslaught as the hosts ran to a 24-point lead in the third quarter (57-33, min. 29).

Season record
Despite the scoreline which meant the game was all but over, Real Madrid refused to drop the intensity in defense and they stormed to their best game in this respect so far this season, bettering their efforts against MoraBanc Andorra, when they were restricted to 58 points. Betis didn't even make 50. Alongside Tavares, Poirier, who continues to demonstrate his tremendous quality (17), Hanga (14), Yabusele (13) and Heurtel (11), all hit double figures in PIR to clinch a 10th league win (71-48, min. 40). Our boys now have their final game of the month in Vitoria on Thursday (8:30pm CET).
