An Esther strike clinches three points for Real Madrid against Rayo in LaLiga.

Real Madrid clinched a well-deserved victory over Rayo Vallecano at the Alfredo Di Stéfano, their fourth in a row at home. The madridistas dominated from start to finish, an Esther goal at the start of the second half making the difference for our team, who climb further up the Primera Iberdrola table.
David Aznar's team were the first to try their luck, with two fine chances inside the first ten minutes. Olga flew down the left flank early on but shot into the side-netting, before Esther narrowly failed to cap off a nice move. The team from Vallecas took it up a notch and although the chances dried up slightly, Nahikari did have a chance to put the team ahead with 20 minutes gone from an Olga cross, but her strike flew wide. With half-an-hour on the clock, Zornoza almost caught Larqué out from the halfway line but the ball skimmed just over the crossbar. Just before the break, Esther struck from inside the box but the visiting goalkeeper responded brilliantly to keep her out.

Esther finds the net
The game remained much the same following the restart and it was all about the madridistas up top. With 54 minutes gone, the team finally got the reward their efforts merited when Nahikari robbed the ball on the edge of the box and played in Esther on the left to unleash a shot across Larqué and make it 1-0.
Athenea could have added to the lead on 81’, but her shot ended up in the keeper's gloves. Rayo then came close to a leveller at the death but Misa and Rocío managed to clear the ball away from danger between them. Aznar's team now turn their attentions to their Women’s Champions League clash at PSG on Tuesday.
