Castilla pick up second win on the bounce

MATCH REPORT. 06/11/2021. Rodrigo Salamanca

The academy side beat UE Costa Brava away from home thanks to Gudjohnsen's second-half strike.

Real Madrid Castilla continued their fine run of form, taking all three points on the road against UE Costa Brava (0-1). Our academy side clinch their fourth Primera RFEF victory this season, the first away from the Di Stéfano. Raúl's boys took all the points thanks to Gudjohnsen's second-half goal.
Castilla took the initiative in the game early on, and Jaume could have beaten Marcos soon after kick-off, before the referee handed Pere Martínez a straight red card for a foul on Latasa with 14 minutes on the clock. Despite their numerical advantage, the youth team were struggling to convert the chances they were creating in the opposition box. Jaume again tried his luck, but his left-footed strike from inside the area flew just wide. On the stroke of half-time, Gila then had a good chance to put the madridistas ahead but his header ended up in Marcos's gloves.
Gudjohnsen strikes
Costa Brava had a chance of their own through Xumetra following the break, but it wouldn't be long before Raúl's team opened the scoring. With 51 mintues gone, Gudjohnsen rose to head home a Mario cross to make it 0-1. The Catalan side responded when Gil unleashed a strong effort, but Luis López did superbly to keep it out (55’). The youngsters wanted more though, and when Arribas linked up with Latasa, he came within a whisker of doubling the lead with a sweetly-struck shot. The madridistas had further fine chances in the closing stages, when Álvaro's point-blank effort was blocked, then when Arribas' free-kick came crashing back off the bar, but ultimately, one was enough for Raúl's boys to take all three points.
