NEWS | 17/09/2021Iván Duque was welcomed by Florentino Pérez to discuss the running of socio-educational projects organised by the Real Madrid Foundation in the South American country and to sign a letter of intent.
The Real Madrid Foundation has been running projects in Colombia since 2008 and is currently working on 36 socio-sports schools and projects in the country in collaboration with the Revel Foundation, the Concívica Foundation, the Community of Ministers of the Infirm-Religious Camillians and the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank).
8,000 children from Colombia
These projects cater to 8,000 children in Colombia. These children are at risk of exclusion and are therefore educated on values through sport on a weekly basis. Colombia is the Latin American country with the highest number of socio-sports projects run by the Real Madrid Foundation and last season the bonds with the country were further cemented with the alliance with the National Learning Service of Colombia (SENA) for the online training of people with limited resources through the Foundation's eLearning platform, Sports & Values Academy TV.
Through the Foundation's projects, the beneficiaries are educated on values by means of sport and they acquire tools that enhance their skills for entrepreneurship and employability. They also cover their basic needs in terms of food, schooling and health services.
Contribution in the development of communities
During the meeting they analysed the role that the Real Madrid Foundation will play in Colombia as a promoter of sport and values for the comprehensive education of children in need and its contribution to the ongoing development of communities, as part of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations.
The presidents also signed a letter of intent to endorse the collaboration between the Real Madrid Foundation and Colombian public institutions.
