Laso: “It's a good sign to be starting the season off with a final"

“We'll have to produce a very good performance if we want to win it”, added the madridista coach.
Pablo Laso spoke to the press ahead of the Endesa Super Cup final clash with Barcelona. The coach explained: “Right now, this tournament is about measuring where we're at. The team looked great yesterday. It was really positive as a coach with how the team dug in when they were trailing. We kept going even though we weren't shooting great and the team did a great job to come through a tough match".

“It's a different game today. We'll see how we've recovered physically in just 20 hours and at this stage in the season. Of course we're up against top opposition and we'll have to produce a fantastic performance if we want to win it. It's a good sign to be starting the season off with a final so early on".

Rudy won't be playing. It wasn't just a knock, it's the start of a hyperextension in the knee, a sprain. We'll have to run some tests back in Madrid tomorrow and we'll go from there but obviously he can't play today. We don't think it's a serious injury. I guess you're thinking about 5 or 6 months but I don't think so. We'll have to wait for tomorrow to find out and I prefer to be optimistic".

"Madrid and Barcelona are both doing things pretty well if they keep making these finals. Beating Barcelona is always difficult, they have so many good players and stars in every position. A team that has brought in new faces with real threat from the three-point line, lots of running, defense... They're a really complete team and we know we have to give it our very best in every respect. I think the team is improving gradually but today is a final and we always expect that little bit more".

The clash
"It's a special match, and it's a final as well so everyone is well aware of the level of the game and what it will demand".
