The Indian Institute of Mothers and Children hosted a friendly football tournament as part of a social and cultural day.
The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is celebrated on 9 August. Indigenous peoples are among the most disadvantaged populations in the world today and this day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the need to create special measures to protect their rights, sustain their cultures and ways of life. The Real Madrid Foundation's social sports school in Calcutta, developed in conjunction with the Indian Institute of Mothers and Children (IIMC Spain) and with the support of ROADIS, caters to this group located in one of the most vulnerable rural areas in the country.

To mark this day, the IIMC organised a recreational day with the residents of the community and the children from the social sports school taking part in a friendly football tournament where they enjoyed a fun-filled day. Despite the health situation in India remaining complicated, the numbers are improving and the population is returning to its activities. Football is not only a game for the children, but also a tool for socialising and promoting culture.

Sport and education in values
The social sports school in Calcutta is now in its 10th year, and was the Foundation's first project in Asia. Over this time, great commitment and excellence have been displayed throughout its work, bringing sport and education in values to families who are at risk of vulnerability. The serious economic situation during the last year has been combined with the pandemic, as well as Cyclone Yaas, which left villages cut off and infrastructures destroyed. The activity carried out by the IIMC throughout this time has been adapted to each situation in order to provide support to the families in the community.
