NEWS | 20/04/2021There are now 14 social sports projects in the country, reaching more than 600 girls and boys.
The Foundation strengthens its presence in the USA thanks to this collaboration, where it currently has 14 projects, located in the states of Virginia, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and now Florida. These projects reach more than 600 children between the ages of 5 and 17, more than 90% of whom are first and second generation immigrants.
Speaking at the event, which took place in the auditorium at Real Madrid City, Iker Casillas expressed his gratitude: "It's a great joy for us to be able to present a new project in these times and is especially heartening. Thinking about the future of children and educating them in a comprehensive way as individuals is undoubtedly the best legacy we can leave them so that they can contribute to building better societies in the future".
María Díaz de la Cebosa said: "Our collaboration represents a great relief for the families and a response to that real need to belong to a community that recognises itself in the values promoted by the Real Madrid Foundation". The Mayor of Miami stated that "this is a historic moment for us concerning the collaborations we're developing to help lots of children, not only because of their desire to play football, but also because we offer them a healthy leisure activity that takes them away from the dangers of the big cities".
The social sports schools were created as a programme that promotes and ensures the schooling of youngsters and the education of values through sport. For this reason, as well as practising football and basketball, the children receive healthy snacks, have tutoring to ensure their academic success, as well as English class reinforcement to encourage their social integration. Thanks to this project, there are plans to extend the programme to the different public parks throughout the city.
