“We were able to rotate players and Carroll’s introduction in the last quarter was key”, explained the coach following the win over Lenovo Tenerife.
Pablo Laso spoke to the media to offer his thoughts on Real Madrid’s Round 31 league victory over Lenovo Tenerife at the WiZink Center: “I must congratulate my team. That was our third game in six days and all three of them have been demanding. Our EuroLeague playoff destiny was on the line against Fenerbahçe; we then faced the second-placed team in the league, Barça, on its court; and then tonight we played the team in third. Once again, the team was really focused from the off. We made really strong starts to the first and third quarters and that’s where we established our lead, but it’s true that we lacked that spark to close the game out. You’ve also got to recognise the opposition’s performance and Tenerife aren’t where they are in the league by chance. They’ve got a lot of weapons and we knew it’d be a very evenly matched game”.

“We were able to rotate players and Carroll’s introduction in the last quarter was key, although we knew that he was carrying a knock to his knee. But we were aware just how important he could be against these opponents and he proved that in the last quarter. He made 13 points in eight minutes. That also speaks volumes of the team and how they managed to pick him out at the key times. I also have to mention the defensive work from Taylor, who played an important role in this win. I’m pleased with the effort we’ve shown in these three really tough games in such quick succession, but we now need to switch our focus ahead of Sunday’s game and the EuroLeague playoff”.
Fifteen wins on the spin
“We’ve qualified for the playoffs and the second objective is to finish amongst the top four to secure home-court advantage and then finish as high up as possible. We’ve now got an advantage, although it’s not over yet, to finish top in the Regular Season. We’ve lost only once during the season and that makes me really happy”.

"Poirier is a great signing for the club, for both the present and the future".

“Carroll is a player we know all about. Today we were certain that he could be the difference-maker and he ultimately proved to be really important to us winning the game. When he arrived, we thought that he wouldn’t be able to play because of a knee problem. I always feel as if he’s ready and that speaks volumes of him. As for Laprovittola, he’s playing really well and feels comfortable. I’m really pleased for him because he was really key to our performance”.
Deck’s exit & Poirier signing
“It’s always sad when a player leaves us, particularly because he was a really important player for us. Poirier is a great signing for the club, both for the present and the future. He’s had two tough years in the NBA, but he’s in good shape and we have to gradually introduce him into the team. He has a lot to offer in many aspects of the game because he’s got lots of energy, he can rotate with Tavares and we have to also try playing them together. He knows the league and I’m really pleased to have signed him”.
Tough year
“We’re Real Madrid and have a duty to always compete. I’ve got some great players and when this team competes, it will win more often than not. That’s why I ask for respect. It’s not been an easy year and none of them are. I’ve been here for 10 seasons and in all of them there have been problems with players coming in and out, etc. The team and the club must continue to show the spirit we have done and I’m really proud of us for that”.
