NEWS | 06/04/2021 | Bárbara Jiménez"We were on it from start to finish and were aware of what was at stake against formidable opponents", added Lucas Vázquez.
“I knew that things would come with time, I always believed that this time would come and the most important thing is that it's come now at a key stage of the season. It's important to be united now and that we all do our bit. That's the key to us being able to win some silverware come the end of the season”.
Lucas Vázquez: “We were on it from start to finish”
“We've got to be happy with that. We put in a top performance and were on it from start to finish and were aware of what was at stake against formidable opponents”.
“It was an important game, it was a tough first leg of a Champions League quarter-final tie and it boosts our confidence ahead of El Clásico. We've still got the return leg to come at Anfield, where I'm sure will be in for a tough night”.
“We take what the coach says as gospel and try to perform based on what he tells us. Things worked out well for us tonight and we have to be happy. Our strength was that we combined long spells of possession with balls over the top, as we looked to get in behind their centre-backs and find Vini and Marco, who are very quick".
"We opened up space by moving the ball from side to side with our possession, that’s where Toni and Luka really help us out and make the team play”.
“I’m just focusing on the present right now. I’m really enjoying this year, getting a lot of playing time and I’m feeling comfortable on the pitch. That makes me happy and I hope that can continue for many years. I have always been and will always be a Real Madrid fan”.
Courtois: “We believe in ourselves”
“We’re very pleased with our performance. Liverpool are a great side but we defended very well. They were lucky with their goal but we reacted well and got the third. Let’s hope we can close out the tie there next week. We know it’ll be tough but we can do it. They’re a team who are very strong at home but we believe in ourselves because our defensive efforts have been fantastic”.
“We know each other very well and that comes from our work day to day. The coach asked me to play a bit higher up to cover those balls in behind and make sure they couldn’t play between the lines. We were always well organised when they came onto us. We defended very well and it’s a shame to have conceded the goal. We controlled the game really well with our possession and I’m thrilled for Vini, who hit two brilliant goals, and for Marco, too”.
LaLiga and the Champions League
“We often get written off after a bad game but the fact is, we’re fighting on two fronts and we’re hungry for both trophies. I hope we can show that again in Saturday’s Clásico clash, and next week against Liverpool once more”.
