Real Madrid claimed a 1-0 victory over Valladolid in the final at the Vicente Calderón.
On 30 June 1989, Real Madrid secured the club's 16th Spanish Cup crown, with Valladolid the opponents in a final staged at the Vicente Calderón. A Gordillo strike in the opening five minutes was enough for Leo Beenhakker's men to seal victory.

En route to the final, Real Madrid prevailed over Elche in the round of 32, before seeing off  Sporting de Gijón in the last 16 and accounting for Celta in the quarter-finals. The semi-final served up a derby clash against Atlético. The Whites claimed a 2-0 away win in the first leg, before running out 1-0 winners in the return leg. The triumph over Valladolid in the final crowned a fine season, in which the team also captured the LaLiga title and the Spanish Super Cup.
