INTERVIEW | 28/05/2020“Thank you to the fans for the love they've shown me all these years. I've heard you and I'm staying another year”, said the player following his contract renewal.
Real Madrid's leading foreign appearance maker is set to continue delighting madridismo for yet another season. Jaycee Carroll has spoken for the first time since renewing his contract until June 2021 in an exclusive interview with Realmadrid.com and Realmadrid TV: “I love playing for Real Madrid, there's still a lot to play for and I want to win more trophies. I'll give it my best shot”.
This contract renewal will see you reach 10 years at Real Madrid. What does it mean to you to extend your time at this club?
I'm really happy and excited. When I came to Europe I always dreamed of carving out a place at a big team and making it my home.
What made you decide to continue with Real Madrid for another year?
There's still so much to play for and I want to win more titles playing at the top level. Once you stop, you can't get back up to the same level again and I was to make the most of it.
What role did the affection the fans have shown you have to play in your renewal?
It was a key aspect of my decision. The affection the fans have shown me all these years is one of the main reasons for it. I love playing for Real Madrid and it was something I took into account when I was making my decision.
Your Real Madrid career is linked to Pablo Laso's. What has he meant to you as a coach?
He means a lot. During this time, he's been one of Real Madrid's most successful coaches and I've had the good fortune to form part of this team. I'm really happy. Since the first year, he's understood exactly what I'm capable of on court and he's given me the chance to show it at the top level.
How has the Jaycee Carroll who arrived in 2011 changed up to now?
I don't know if I've changed that much but now I have more experience, that comes with age. I have more confidence in games and at important moments. We've acquired all that experience by winning titles and playing in finals.
Which are your top three biggest moments at Real Madrid?
That's a tough one. The first Copa del Rey in Barcelona. That's where it all started. The Euroleague in 2015 in Madrid after such a long time. To clinch that title for Real Madrid playing at home was incredible. And from a personal perspective, another of the greatest things is the life I've built here in Madrid with my family and the birth of my four children.
What dream would you still like to achieve at Real Madrid?
There are more trophies to be one, games to be played, three-pointers to score. I've won 19 titles here and I'd like to make it to at least 20.
What message would you like to send to the fans?
Thank for all the love you've shown me over these last 10 years. I'll give it my all out court to make sure you enjoy watching me. I've heard you and I'm staying another year”.
